Capture of a Blockade Runner. Gideon Welles, Secretary of Navy, is informed on Feb. 3, 1865 by Commander C. Caldwell, that the Armstrong, captured on Dec. 4, 1864, was a blockade runner loaded with cotton. "During the chase, she threw overboard her deckload, numbering about 300 bales...We succeeded in picking up...133 bales. This cotton was placed on board the prize Armstrong by order of Adm.
