Boxes of this kind were often found on ships during the 1600-1800's. They were used to store the ship captain's personal items. This one is called the Captain Bloom Box. He obviously sailed in 1833. These boxes are handmade of solid wood (not particle board or plastic). This one measures 21.5 wide,15.5 deep and10.5 high. There are two other mates listed on this site. This is the largest. When used stacked three high, they make an ideal end table or storage stand in any room. Lovely bright colors with names and dates appear on tops sides, backs and fronts. Lovely at the beach or pool house for storage. <p>
