Captain America Comics #1 Printing Error (Timely, 1941) CGC FN 6.0 Cream to off-white pages. Cap's as American as... Yellow, White and Blue? That's what he's sporting on this printing error variant, which was manufactured without red ink on the cover. Since America hadn't entered the war yet in March of 1941, we'll assume this was a simple oversight at the printing plant, and not an Axis plot to damage U.S. morale. But printing errors aside, this is the origin and first appearance of Captain America, created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. It's currently number seven on Overstreet's ranking of the most valuable comic books. Kirby's cover is one of the most famous comic book covers ever, with Adolf Hitler himself getting a well-deserved punch in the face. The comic also has the first appearance of Cap's loyal sidekick Bucky Barnes, and also the debut of one of the all-time great comic book villains, the Red Skull (and since he doesn't appear on the cover, he really is red here). CGC notes, "Writing on interior cover and first page." Overstreet 2004 FN 6.0 value (for regular issue) = $20,832. CGC census 12/04 (for regular issue without printing error): 4 in 6.0, 13 higher.
