<B>Hero of the Zeebrugge Raid, Captain Alfred Carpenter Photograph and Cap Tally Signed</B></I> “<I>Alfred F. B. Carpenter</B></I>”. The Victoria Cross recipient has signed a beautiful 8” x 9.5” black-and-white Underwood & Underwood, New York, studio portrait of himself in his Royal Navy uniform “<I>Alfred F. B. Carpenter/ Captain V.C., R.N.</B></I>” at the lower right corner. The photo has been tipped on to a larger stiff backing sheet but is still in near fine condition. Also included is an enlisted man's uncut Royal Navy cap tally measuring 46” with “H. M. S. Vindictive” in gold thread. The cap tally has also been signed by Captain Carpenter. Carpenter commanded the H. M. S. Vindictive on the ill-fated Zeebrugge Raid on April 23, 1918. The intent of the raid was to intentionally sink several ships near Zeebrugge mole and thus block the port.
