Cancelled Reverse Carson City Dollar Die and 18
Cancelled Reverse Carson City Dollar Die and 1870-CC Dollar. This is a wonderful corollary item for the Carson City collector. The consignor of this die has done a considerable amount of research about the positioning of the mintmark, and has concluded that this die struck coins from what John Kroon called Reverse 1, and what David Bowers called Reverse A in his silver dollar reference, page 821. Five reverse dies were used to strike Seated dollars in the Carson City mint from 1870-1873. All five dies were used in 1870; however, Reverse A was only used in 1870 and is unknown in any subsequent years. A first-person article accompanies this lot and will provide the new owner with considerable background as well as technical information. The die itself has sustained numerous contact marks over the years in addition to the cancellation in the form of a rim-to-rim X. Accompanying the die is an 1870-CC dollar, VG10 Damaged, that was struck from this die. A fascinating pairing for the advanced Carson City specialist. 2 items Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
