The included factory letter confirms the serial number, caliber, barrel length, and blue finish with the type of stocks not listed. The pistol was shipped to the Government of Canada, H.W. Brown, Ottawa, Canada, on October 31, 1914 as part of a 1,000 gun shipment. The back strap is marked "48./O.B./23." While the back strap making has not been identified, Model 1911 pistol expert Charles W. Clawson concluded that the pistol was possibly issued to the 48th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (letter included). The left side of the slide is marked with the two block, two line patent dates and address with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations. Standard two line caliber marking on the right side of the slide and model marking with serial number on the right side of the frame. Trigger guard marked with the letter "y" and Colt triangle proof. Checkered diamond pattern grips and two-tone magazine with lanyard loop.

Condition: Fine. The pistol retains 60% original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. There is some very scattered pin point pitting. The grips are very fine with a few minor handling marks and a small surface chip on the right panel. Overall the checkering remains crisp. Mechanically excellent.
