MAPPLEBECK & TOWE - on obv. of Br. 524, C. 33, 1839 Sideview ½ p. of the Bank of Montreal. Hole at top, between OF and MONTREAL (Brunk M-178, on a British token; M.I. 641). A countermark with a provenance of one hundred and twenty-two years, having been sold at Sotheby's Murdoch Sale, July 21, 1903, lot 494, realizing two pounds. The coin eventually came into the hands of Roy Hughes, and it was sold at his sale held by Jeffrey Hoare Auctions in Feb. 1995, realizing $720 plus buyer's premium.
