Lot of 2 high grade silver specimens from the cobalt, iron, nickel, silver, arsenic bearing ores of Cobalt Ontario. Silver was discovered in the area during the summer of 1903 during the construction of the Temiskaning & Northern Ontario Railway, soon becoming one of the world's largest silver producers. Today, the town is hailed as the "birthplace of hardrock mining in Canada." One specimen is 3/4 of an inch and the other 2 inches in diameter and consist of a variety of cobalt, nickel, and silver sulfides and sulfosalts within a plagioclase aplite. These mineral include smaltite (the silver bearing vareity of skutterudite), stephanite, tennantite, glaucodot, gersdorfite, rammelsbergite, niccolite, and bismuthite. Samples are labeled as from Cobalt, and the other from the Silver Queen Mine, Ontario.
