Featured in this lot is a large Campo del Cielo meteorite found in the Gran Chaco Gualamba, Argentina area about 500 miles West of Buenos Aries. It is estimated that the meteorites fell 4,000-6,000 years ago at Campo del Cielo (meaning field of sky or heaven) in Gran Chaco, Gualamba. Twelve very large craters have been found by searchers. The largest Campo meteorite weighs about 30 tons; understandably, it is one of Argentina's national treasures. These meteorites are classed as a coarse octahedrite. The composition is about 94% iron and 6% nickel with scarce minerals present as well. Campo meteorites are also well known for their silicate inclusions. The meteorites exhibit magnetic properties as it is composed mostly of iron composite. The meteorite exhibits magnetic properties. The meteorite shows a rust color, mostly from the oxidization of the iron within the meteorite, but features spots that shine slightly when in direct light. This meteorite measures 4 1/2" L x 2 3/4" W and weighs 705.5 grams.*
