Cameroon Grassfields, Ceramic Vessel
Unidentified Ethnic Group, Cameroon Grassfields
Vessel with incised and sculptural elements
Ceramic
Height: 19 ½ inches Width at rim: 18 ¼ inches

A globular vessel with a well-shaped, round, and undecorated body. Above this section at the shoulder are encircling lines in low relief, and then a repeated set of incised almond shaped leaves and triangles. Above this decorative band are four sculptured heads, each projecting from the neck on four struts just below the wide-mouthed opening. The vessel is heavily smoked red ware, with a good patina showing age and the suggestion of old paint on the leaf patterns. The condition is very good.

Provenance: Thomas D.
