TLS, one page, 7 x 10, Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Department letterhead, February 3, 1919. As governor of Massachusetts, Coolidge writes Erastus E. Williamson, disbursing officer at the Charlestown Navy Yard. In full: “Please accept my thanks for your very kind reference to the proclamation I made on the observance of Lincoln Day. Of course there is nothing new that could be said, but I am none the less pleased to have your commendation. I read your oration with a great deal of interest.” Scattered light wrinkling and soiling and an area of thin paper along the far left edge, otherwise fine condition. Coolidge was the newly elected head of the Commonwealth when he proclaimed February 12 as ‘Lincoln Day’ in observance of Abraham Lincoln; four years later, he would be elected as one of Lincoln’s successor’s to the White House.
