Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 23 x 18, February 26, 1927. President Coolidge appoints Samuel Reber, Jr. to the position of “a Vice Consul of the United States of America at Callao, Lima, Peru.” Signed at the conclusion by Coolidge and countersigned by the acting secretary of state. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, and a bit of trivial foxing. The large white wafer seal is crisp and intact, with a single horizontal fold passing through the upper portion. After 27 years of foreign service, Reber was forced into retirement in 1953 after being labeled as a ‘security risk’ by Senator Joseph McCarthy.
