AQS on an off-white 7 x 10.25 sheet of his personal stationery. Coolidge pens a quote from the conclusion of his commencement address given at George Washington University on February 22, 1929. Coolidge writes: “As we study the statesmanship of Washington, as we see it demonstrated in our domestic and foreign experience, he becomes a larger and larger figure…The reverence for his memory continues to increase with the increasing years.” In fine condition. On February 22, 1929, just ten days before they left the White House, both President and Mrs. Coolidge were awarded Doctor of Laws degrees at a commencement ceremony at George Washington University. Coolidge was always a great admirer of Washington as proved in this reverent quote. Provenance: Christie’s, 2005.
