Calvin Coolidge: Signed 1st Edition - Have Faith
Calvin Coolidge: Signed First Edition of Have Faith in Massachusetts: A Collection of Speeches and Messages. (Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1919), first edition, 224 pages, dark blue cloth with gilt lettering on the spine and the front board, 12mo (5.25" x 7.75"), dust jacket (in protective Mylar). Inscribed and signed "To Hon. Hiram Bingham With Regards Calvin Coolidge" on the front free endpaper. During his time as a lecturer and professor at Yale, Hiram Bingham reintroduced to the world the once lost Incan city of Machu Picchu. He was also later elected governor of Connecticut (for one day) and elected as a United States Senator from Connecticut after the suicide of Frank Bosworth Brandegee (his victory in the Senate race is the reason he served only one day as governor). Later, Coolidge would appoint Bingham to the Aircraft Board, earning the first-term senator the nickname "The Flying Senator." The book is in very good condition, with minor edge wear and lightly bumped corners. The inner text has a few scattered pencil marks in the margins, but is overall very clean. The dust jacket is in very good condition, with edge wear and some professional restoration, including a 1.75" tear at the spine fold repaired with archival tape. The book is housed in a sturdy custom quarter leather slipcase with gilt spine lettering, five raised spine bands, and marbled boards. A wonderful signed compendium of Coolidge's public addresses while he was still governor of Massachusetts.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
