TLS as president, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, November 20, 1924. Letter to Walter Gilman Page of the Society of the Sons of the Revolution. In full: “I want to take this opportunity of expressing to you my sincere thanks for the action of the Sons of the Revolution of Massachusetts in presenting to the town of Plymouth the flagpole in honor of my great-great-grandfather, Captain John Coolidge. There is little, perhaps, that I can properly say of the pride which I feel in his honorable service to his country, but I can express, I am sure, my own sense of appreciation for this action on your part. The fact that this memorial comes from the State House has especially touched me, and I am very grateful to you for it.” Coolidge has added the final two words of the text in his own hand. In fine condition, with scattered mild toning. Coolidge’s great-great grandfather who served as a private during the American Revolutionary War, was promoted to captain after the war ended, and was later one of the first selectmen of the town of Plymouth Notch, Vermont. An unusual presidential format, relating not only to the president’s own ancestor, but to others that fought in the Revolutionary War.
