This 1868 cover with letter was mailed from the United States Treasury in Boston to Mr. E. Neally, Collector of Customs, Bath, Maine. The letter informs Neally that $25.00 in the coin of California can not be accepted! (Also 50c in counterfeit silver and 25c in silver with a punched hole!) Signed by W. H. Sergeant. Sergeant was a "Paying Secretary" of the Independent Treasury of Boston in 1870. Most of the US Department of the Treasury wax seal is intact on the back.City: BostonCounty: State: MADate:
