California King Gold Mine stock
Number 2401 for 100 shares to F. J. Hearne on December 3, 1902. Signed by Charles Fay and R. F. Pettigrew. Orange on white. This is a beautiful Gold Mine Stock Certificate from a now defunct Gold Mine in the Arizona Territory dated January 28, 1903. Nestled in the Picacho Basin, this mine was located near the Colorado River, 24 miles north of the intersection of highways 24 and US 80, east of Winter haven, California and north of Yuma, Arizona. In 1862, gold was first discovered in the Basin. In 1878, a storekeeper decided to go into gold mining after noticing numbers of people bringing gold dust into his store. His mine was eventually taken over by a group of miners who formed The California King Gold Mine Company in the 1890's. Corruption forced the mine into bankruptcy in 1904.
