California Dreaming. Rare group of four
California Dreaming. Rare group of four items relating to the Del Mar, an ephemeral minicar planned in San Diego. All evidently printer's proofs of promotional materials, from company's working files: Typeset press release, "...America's Lowest Priced Standard Passenger Car," stating that parts for 100,000 cars in 1949 are assured; this bears a correction in red pencil, pushing deliveries to Jan. 1950. 9 x 113/4, on pulp. Highly attractive mini-broadside, 9 x 12, with large redtone photo of convertible at top, massive (but unoccupied) factory at bottom. Printed bird's-eye view of "frame and assembly," pointing out mechanical features. 71/2 x 91/4. Printed letter, "...Watch your newspaper for announcement of the arrival and availability date of the Del Mar Automobile in your local salesroom." Some toning; edge tears of mini-broadside, but generally very good. Notwithstanding pronouncements of factories and dealerships, only a few prototype cars were ever built. The Jan. 1950 deliveries pencilled in red in the working document above never took place.
