<B>CALCITE -- "THE BLOODY DRAGONS TOOTH"</B></I><BR><BR> <I>Shan Hua Pu Mine, Xiang Hua Ling, Hunan Province, People's Republic of China</B></I><BR>Brilliant red iron oxide inclusions give this fabulous calcite group a boldly different look from other calcite specimens. The coloration can best be understood by imagining white calcite crystals growing sideways into a water filled fissure. Near the end of the growth period a fine rain of iron oxide powder gently drifted down, into the water from above, coating the growing crystals like snow on a roof-top. The 'snow' was incorporated into the last layer of calcite to crystallize. Then it waited, in the dark, for thousands of years. Waiting for the miners who would bring it to light.<BR>This dramatic, colorful <I>objet d'art</B></I> features approximately nine brick-red crystals and measures 7 3/4 inches high X 5 1/2 inches wide. It has a difficultly detectable minor cleavage which looks like another crystal face.
