This is a remarkable slab weighing 9.71 Troy ounces, containing high grade sulphide ore gold in chalcopyrite. It was mined between 1915-1940 near Hodson, Calaveras County, California. The piece measures 4" x 2" x 1" at the thickest point. Highly polished. Hodson is a former settlement in Calaveras County, California, at an elevation of 971 feet (296 m), 2.5 miles (4.0 km) west-northwest of Copperopolis. A post office operated at Hodson from 1898 to 1906, and again from 1915 to 1917. The town was named in honor of J.J. Hodson, a copper mining financier. - Woodward Collection -59065
