Rare limited edition Official Rawlings American League (Brown) baseball with misspelled engraving, numbered "Cal Ripkin Jr., Game #3/2131, 2-June-82, vs. Texas," signed on the sweet spot in black ballpoint by Ripken. In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from PSA/DNA, as well as a letter of provenance from the original owner, in part: "Scoreboard paid Cal Ripken Jr to sign 2,131 baseballs commemorating the streak which broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive game record. After signing the balls Scoreboard sent them to Arlington, Texas to have the commemorative stamp applied…noting each game he played in…The man applying the stamp did so incorrectly to approximately 6 dozen baseballs, thus they were all earlier numbered balls. When he realized he had Ripken's name spelled wrong…he started erasing the signatures and cutting out the commemorative marking when he was stopped by a part time employee of mine by the name of Blake Smith…The man donated all but 10 of these baseballs to TCU's baseball program…The 10 that were confiscated by Blake were sold to me…This letter guarantees that I had no more than 10 of these baseballs with the incorrect spelling. It also guarantees that no more than 10 were ever released with this error." A doubly rare 'limited edition' offering related to the great 'Iron Man' of baseball.
