Caesar Rodney Autograph Document Signed
Declaration Signer Caesar Rodney Autograph Document Signed "Caesar Rodney, trustee", one page, Dover, Delaware, February 28, 1776. It reads: "Dover February the 2th 1776 Then rec'd of Lovin Wainwright the sum of forty pounds principals, and the sum of thirty pounds six shillings and three pence interest in full discharge of the within mortgage." Active in early Delaware politics, Rodney helped compile the colony's laws, attended the Stamp Act Congress, drafted a protest to the King concerning the Townshend Acts, and was a Signer of the Declaration of Independence. A delegate to the Continental Congress, he rode all night to vote in favor of independence, for which the conservatives voted him out of office. Later re-elected to the Continental Congress, he was also president of Delaware. A militiaman during the war, he became a brigadier general and raised troops. 1776-dated items from Declaration Signers are always popular. Very fine condition., writing clear and dark.
