Ca. Early 1800 Pacific Northwest Coast War Club
This is a fantastic early 1800s volcanic stone head war club from the Northwest Coast Tribe Indians from the Pacific Oregon to Northern California region. The piece exhibits a large hand formed stone head comprised of volcanic rock held onto a wood haft handle with a wrap of thick Buffalo Bison parfleche rawhide. The entire handle is covered in the thick Buffalo Bison parfleche rawhide which is also sewn with the same parfleche rawhide strand and tacked into place with nails. The nails could be a later addition. The piece is very stiff and has a deep coloring. Provenance: From a private Paris, France Native American collection, previously noted as being a Western Indians circa early 1800s war club, sold by Old Barn in 2008. Measures overall 17 5/8"L with the head being 5.25" by 4.5" and about 1.5" thick.*
