Ca. 1970's Navajo Pawn Thunderbird Kachina Bolo
This is a circa 1970s vintage pawn Navajo bolo tie in impressive large size having a Knife-Wing Thunderbird Kachina in sterling silver set with turquoise and coral and signed "RKe". The bolo tie features a wonderfully and professionally crafted sterling silver, red branch coral, and turquoise construction. The bolo shows a central pendant that is very large and shows a Knife-Wing Thunderbird Kachina with wings out spread in the traditional fashion. There is intricate attention to detail with twisted rope decoration throughout the pendant; the eyes are constructed from ox blood red branch coral cabochon and there are two of them, with the head of the Kachina and the garments decorated with a total of five oval cut Cripple Creek turquoise with a striking brown matrix and light blue coloration. The aglets of the bolo tie show a tooled and stamped design with hanging decoration of two oval cut ox blood red branch coral. The back of the bolo tie is marked as follows: RKe - Benneyy Pat. Pend. The condition of this bolo tie is good with some slight patina to the sterling silver and some wear to the braided leather of the tie but otherwise shows good overall condition. The measurement of this bolo tie from tip to tip is 20" and the pendant measures 5" x 4 7/8" x 7/8". Provenance: collected from David Saity, New York, New York in the 1990s. The collective weight of this bolo tie is 150.7g.*
