Ca. 1930's Navajo Klagetoh Trading Post Large Rug
Featured in this lot is this Navajo Klagetoh Trading Post heavy rug circa 1930-1940's. The rug features a wonderfully and professionally crafted wool construction that shows a intricate detail of geometric and lightening patterns with a stepped triangular border and diamond medallions on either side of the central axis. The rug shows a heathered grey field with black, red, and off white coloration to the geometric patterns with some tassels shown missing but others in the corners of the rug. The Klagetoh weaving is very similar to the Ganado rugs, but with a predominantly gray background instead of the Ganado’s red. Some experts do not consider Klagetoh a specific regional rug but a sub-type of Ganado. The condition of this Navajo rug shows some larger holes due to age and wear to the main body of the rug and some fading to the grey coloration of the rug. The measurements of this rug is 61 1/2" x 37 3/4". The thread count of this rug is 120 threads per square inch. There is a old tag from the weaver that is marked as follows: 996-00 832.
