Ca. 1930's Crow (Apsaalooke) Montana Game Spears
The lot features three original circa 1930's Apsaalooke Crow of Montana game spears. A scan of an original circa 1900-1930's Montana Crow spear game is shown in the images for representation. The photo shows several Crow of Montana throwing the spears, similar to a javelin throw, nowadays done at the Montana Crow Fair. These each show a carved wood shaft with cut split end holding a forged iron pike / spike held into place with wrapped wire. The ends show turkey feather fletching held into place with wrappings and reinforced with glue. The nock or end are each different, one a cone like shape, one carved to a bullet like shape and the other a more traditional nock shape. These are painted red. Comes from a large Native American collection in Wyoming. One of the spears have a wrapping of some type of old canvas grip tape (seen on some of the examples in the photograph) and another with contemporary tape. One has an old tag marked, “Oscar O. Melieine”. These measures in length in descending order 50.5”L, 48”L, and 42”L,
