Ca. 1930-1950's Montana Fly Fishing Creel's (3)
Featured in this lot is this Montana fly fishing creel's circa 1930's to 1950's. There are three creels in this collection with similar design and decoration. These creels resemble the style and looks of two major creel makers, W.H. McMonies and George Lawrence Company, but are unmarked. The first creel is the smallest of the three with split willow weaving to the basketry and is adorned with fine deep brown leather along the lip of the creel and has a shoulder strap. The next is the largest and shows a split willow woven design with stamped and tooled leather adornments sewn into the lid and body of the creel. The last shows the lightest complexion to the leather with a lighter brown and is sewn onto the lip and the body of the creel with a shoulder strap. The condition of this collection of creel's is preserved with some of the leather adorning decoration showing its age with dryness and cracking in areas due to exposure with some patina and wear to the split willow woven design of the frame. The measurements of these creel's range from 7" x 12 1/2" x 6 1/4" to 9" x 13 1/2" x 7 3/4". The collective weight of this collection of creel's is 6lb 8oz.
