The lot features a large beaded hide pipe bag with patriotic and checkered geometric beadwork from the Blackfeet Piegan tribe of Northern Montana dating to circa 1920-1940s. The bag shows Indian tanned buckskin being sinew sewn and shows early 1900s glass trade seed beads. One side shows a patriotic crossed US flags and maltese cross designs with background of greasy blue, semi-transparent lilac, semi-transparent royal blue, lilac blue, greasy red with a border in semi-transparent lilac and semi-transparent green. The other side shows a classic documented Blackfoot / Blackfeet checkered pattern with background in lilac blue with pattern in semi-transparent, greasy yellow, roay blue, semi-transparent green, red white heart, and cobalt. There is a beaded band along one side and the top in medium blue and red white heart. The bottom has Indian tanned buckskin fringes with amber Czechoslovakia buggle cut tube beads at the fringe and along the top tie. The top tie has rolled tin jingle dangle cones and yellow dyed horsetail hair. The bag is well kept and displays beautifully. Provenance: From a Northern California collection.
