This is a phenomenal circa 1910 Apache Olla woven basket from the ex-collection of Sundog and Bruce VanLandingham. The basket shows a wonderful size with wide opening mouth with fine amazing symmetrical zig-zag, diamond and crosses woven in willow and devils claw. The coiled woven storage jar / olla is in original condition with little to no damage for its early age. The piece comes with the original tag which is marked, “Apache Olla c.1910 $4,000 BV0051 SUNDOG FINE ART”.
Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and acquired by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery.
The basket displays very well, has a nice medium-to-large size with rare symmetrical body and very well kept condition. Measures overall 10” H by 9.5” diameter.
