Ca. 1900- Ute Indian Beaded Hide Gauntlet Gloves
The lot features a set of Indian hide men's gauntlet gloves with beadwork from the Ute Indians dating to circa 1900-1930's. The set shows a classic gauntlet glove pattern with wide flaring intregal cuffs all made from Indian tanned hide with thin fringes on one outside edge and lined on the inside with old Buffalo check calico trade clothe. The beadwork shows whimsical floral designs being sinew sewn showing early glass trade seed and petit beads. The beads show colors of greasy yellow, chalk white, sky padre light blue, greasy green, semi-transparent red, semi-transparent light blue, cobalt, semi-transparent green. There is some slight bead loss, but mostly still present. Ute Indian beaded gauntlet gloves or riding gloves are uncommon with this set coming from a private Utah Indian and Cowboy collection. The hide has a nice soft appearance with some darker patina areas, stiffened hide fringes, a few wear spots, including a wear spot through one palm. Each glove measures 9"W with an additional 7" fringe by 15"L. Total weight of 10 oz.
