Ca. 1900 Eskimo Inuit Pipe from Rifle Cartridge
The lot features an Eskimo Inuit pipe collected at Wainwright Alaska in 1909. The pipe dates to circa early 1900 and is made with an early rifle cartridge marked, "W.R.A.Co. 303 SAV." a .303 Savage which was first developed in circa 1894. The bowl has a classic early Bering Strait Siberian or Aleut bowl, which was influenced by the Chinese and is made from brass and copper. The stem appears to be original, carved wood. Has an old collection tag which is marked, "Eskimo Pipe collected at Wainwright, Alaska, 1909 $55.00 / T-90 ELL Patterned after Chinese - Winchester Casing". Truly a fantastic turn of the century pipe with nice collection tag. Measures 14-inches long.
