Ca. 1890 Crow Beaded Dispatch Tipi Possible Bag
This is an unusual and excellent late-19th Century beaded dispatch bag, otherwise known as the tip or possible / possibles bag, from the Crow Native American Indians of Montana. The bag is comprised of old trade canvas clothe and has original buckskin carrying strap still attached. It shows beadwork on the front side in absolutely beautiful typical 19th Century Northern Crow pastel colors and geometric pattern showing designs of triangles and hour glass shapes with white borders. The bag shows no tears, snags or bead loss with minor wear. The beadwork shows all original period glass trade seed beads in colors of Cheyenne pink, semi-transparent red, chalk white, medium green, greasy blue cobalt, light blue, greasy yellow. The three original tie straps are still in tact and attached. These bags are commonly referred to as a tipi bag (tepee, teepee), possible bag, possibles bag, flat bag or dispatch bag by collectors. Truly a colorful example in well kept condition. Provenance: From a fantastic private collection in Cincinnati, Ohio. Measures 15 ½ inches wide by 10 ½ inches tall.
