This is a fantastic circa 1890-1910’s Navajo Third Phase Chief’s Blanket. The blanket exhibits handspun wool that is woven in colors of red, dark-brown, yellow, light-brown, and cream / white. The blanket shows a traditional banded ground with halved and quartered stepped diamond anchor points as well as whole and halved cross anchor points. The weaving is unique in the variation of the stepped diamond half motifs combined with the large cross motifs and is truly a stunning example of the early era. Provenance: Found to be an authentic example of an early Navajo Third Phase Blanket by the experts at Freeman’s Hindman. The rug is a fine, early example with mostly well preserved conditions, would benefit from a cleaning, has some broken edge cords, slight tears along the edges, small rip in corner, field mostly in well kept condition with no major damages, nice rich coloring. Measures overall 70-inches by 57-inches.
