Ca. 1880's Plateau Indians Beaded Tomahawk Drop
This is an original circa 1880’s Plateau Indians beaded tomahawk drop. The tomahawk drop is comprised of Indian tanned hide construction that is sinew and trade thread sewn that shows a polygonal shape with olive and red stroud cloth sewn onto the hide with geometric patterns shown with trade seed beads that includes coloration of butterscotch, greasy green, sky blue, chalk white, amber, Cheyenne pink, red white heart, semi-transparent dark green beads. The drop also shows red stroud trade clothes. This drop would have hum from a tomahawk as a adornment. The condition of this tomahawk drop is preserved with some fraying to the red stroud cloth but otherwise shows a preserved condition. The measurements of this tomahawk drop is 8 3/4" x 5 3/4".
Provenance: From a prominent ex-Bozeman private collection who purchased the majority of his collection from Cowan's, Skinner, Bonhams, Morphy's, Sotheby's, March in Montana, North American Auction and other well revered auction houses.
