Featured in this lot is this Sioux fully beaded patriotic sheath and early trade knife circa 1880's. The knife and sheath feature a wonderfully and professionally crafted Indian tanned hide and Trade Seed beads construction that shows a patriotic design with a hide fringed tassel at the bottom and sections of red feathered aglets down the seam and on the tassel. The Trade Seed Bead coloration includes: Chalk White, Red White Heart, Greasy Green, Sky Blue, Medium Blue. The fully beaded nature of this sheath makes the piece intrinsically unique with two separate patterns on each side; one patriotic with geometric patterns and the other shows Sioux cross and geometric patterns. The shows an 19th century age with a trade knife or frontier knife shape and is stamped on the blade; the blade is full tang with a wooden handle. Provenance: Featured in Morphys auction and purchased by a high level collector with previously sold price listed on tag of $3200.00.
The condition of this Sioux knife sheath and knife is well preserved with some patina and wear to the blade and handle of the knife and shows a very well kept sheath with some patina to the aglets. The measurements of this knife and sheath is 15" x 2 7/8".
