Ca. 1880-1890 Pine Ridge Cheyenne / Sioux Photo
This is an original silver albumen boudoir card photograph dating to circa 1880-1890 of a Northern Cheyenne or Sioux family on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The photograph is an original silver albumen and was originally mounted to a boudoir cabinet card later removed by a previous collector. The image shows a tipi lodge with drying rack holding various Indian trapped hides and at the forefront a family of Native Americans. The family consists of a man with war bonnet or turban smoking a pipe sitting next to two women both in wearing blankets and traditional garment and a young child. To the right is a small dog and the left there lives possessions. The image has a small tear at the center and was removed from a boudoir card at some point in the past. Truly a rare unseen image.
