This is a truly stunning quilled and beaded pipe bag with quillwork and beadwork from the Sioux dates to circa 1870 and is from the collections of Stanley B. Slocum Minnesota and the Drew Bax Collection, CO.
The bag exhibits thick Buffalo / Bison Indian tanned hide and is sinew sewn and adorned with classic intricate geometric designs with period glass trade seed beads. The beads include greasy pea green, red white heart, cobalt, chalk white, greasy blue, greasy yellow, semi-transprent green, facted metal. The bag also has rolled tin jingle cone danglers with red plume feathers. The fringes show strips of parfleche rawhide wrapped in porcupine quill quillwork with wonderful designs.
