Ca. 1860-1870 Blackfeet (Niitsitapi) Pipe Bag
This is a truly stunning and historically early pipe bag from the Blackfeet / Blackfoot Niitsitapi from circa 1860-1870's adorned with quillwork and beadwork from a prominent collection. The pipe bag is comprised of Indian tanned hide with sinew sewing and further adorned with porcupine quill quillwork, early period correct glass trade seed beads, rolled tin jingle cones and quilled fringes. This fabulous bag exhibits a rare blue background along with red quillwork, very similar to the Blackfeet Niitsitapi bag sold by Bonhams in 2022 for $13,000. The beadwork shows colors of greasy yellow, greasy green, cobalt, red white heart, semi-transparent green, greasy light blue, sky light blue, and the quillwork showing red, purple and cream / white. The bag is well kept and displays beautifully.

Provenance: From a prominent ex-Bozeman private collection who purchased the majority of his collection from Cowan's, Skinner, Bonhams, Morphy's, Sotheby's, March in Montana, North American Auction and other well revered auction houses. Measures overall 40" x 6 3/4" measurements with fringe.
