Y. Lambert, CATALOGUE RAISONNÉ DES OUVRES SUR PAPIER DE CY TWOMBLY, MILAN, 1979, Vol. VI, p. 177, no. 189 (illustrated) <p>Twombly is also a whirling dervish. As someone once remarked in light derision of father Freud, "Wo es war soll Derviche werden!" Twombly's painting is the transcription of a certain number of "states" of clarity and of swiftly passing pleasure. He sets his hand to a sheet of paper as a way of trying to reach them, making an appeal by invoking his own forgotten names. The results can be exhibited, arranging them like so any scores, like intervals
of resonance.
