<B>CT65/491 "Havana Counterfeit" $100 1864.</B></I> Here is a nice example of this famous counterfeit that has plate letter D, written signatures, machine printed serial numbers, no space between standing soldier's body and elbow, smaller dimensions than a genuine note, and the back a lighter shade of blue than for a genuine note. This counterfeit is estimated as a Rarity 8, see <I>Counterfeit Currency of the Confederate States of America,</B></I> by George R. Tremmel. These counterfeits were accepted throughout the Confederacy due to their excellent lithography that paralleled if not surpassed the genuine notes. These "Havana" counterfeits were originally listed as genuine in the seminal Bradbeer tome of 1915. Criswell reports that the notes were produced in Havana and smuggled into Mobile. This lovely example exhibits embossing, ample margins, and a couple of pinholes. This is the most popular Confederate counterfeit. <B>Choice Crisp Uncirculated.</B></I><BR><I>From The William A.
