Philadelphia was still the nation's capitol when Senator Tracy wrote this letter giving a glowing review of Joseph Hopkins's new song, “<I>Hail Columbia.</B></I> Tracy states that, “<I>…the Theatre was full, the song was encored 4 times & the last time gallery pit Boxes & all joined in chorus - if noise has any agency in promoting or exhibiting patriotism, surely never was patriotism so benoised…</B></I>”.
