<B>Confederate Surgeon Major Samuel H. Caldwell's Door Lock.</B></I> An elaborate locking iron mechanism with the initials "SHC". Caldwell. the surgeon to General Nathan Bedford Forrest, returned to his medical practice at Paris, Tennessee, and lived there for the rest of his life. He built an elaborate Victorian home that included this ornamental lock for his front door. <BR><BR>This heavy two-piece locking mechanism measures approximately 3” x 5” and is decorated with scroll work. It retains traces of the original gilt where the 1” monogram of Dr. Caldwell has been cast just above the keyhole. The elaborate "SHC" letters are superimposed over each other and enclosed in a circle.
