<B>Confederate Surgeon Dr. Samuel Houston Caldwell's Voter Registration,</B></I> a reinstatement to vote by his partner in medicine. Caldwell practiced medicine with Dr. John J. Matthewson before the Civil War and returned to practice after the fall of the Confederacy. Matthewson, born in 1814, remained loyal to the North and signed this reinstatement of Dr. Caldwell's voting rights in July of 1869 just two years before Matthewson's death. Matthewson signs as the voter registration commissioner for Henry County on this 8¼” x 5½” certificate printed on light green paper which is numbered "4" and dated July 22, 1869. The document is in very good condition and is nicely framed.
