CORCORAN, MICHAEL
(1827 - 1863) Union brigadier general who led the 69th N.Y. and Corcoran's Irish Brigade, captured at Bull Run and paroled, killed at Fairfax when his horse collapsed on him. Rare war-date L.S. as "Michael Corcoran Brig. Genl Commanding" on "Corcoran's Irish Legion" letterhead, 1p. 8vo., New York, Oct. 4, 1862 to Brig. Gen. Thomas Hillhouse seeking the promotion of James B. Kirkir, Peter McDermott and Patrick McCarthy, and adding at the end: "...After further consideration and investigation, I have concluded to release Colonel McDermott from arrest and restore him to his command...". Very good.
