COOK AND BROS NAVAL SWORD
CONFEDERATE NAVAL CUTLASS: This Cook & Brother, New Orleans, Naval Cutlass made prior to the end of 1862, is in fine to mint condition. The blade is bright, smooth but never polished. The brass guard has a pleasant, untouched patina with clear, deep markings "Cook & Brother". The sword recently came from a family from the Mississippi Gulf coast who dutifully maintained it in "as new" museum condition. Patterned after the U.S. Naval model of 1841, the Cook and Brother Cutlass was MADE IN EXTREMELY LIMITED QUANTITY, WITH FEW SURVIVING SPECIMENS. Identical to the sword illustrated and described "Confederate Edged Weapons" by Wm. Albaugh , also in Mr. Albaugh's "A Photographic Supplement of Confederate Swords" and "Swords of the American Civil War" by R. H. Bezdek. "COOK & BROTHER" started their business in New Orleans in 1861, escaping from the city in 1862 when it was taken over by the Union Army and eventually reestablishing in Athens, Ga. where their primary product was manf. of firearms for the Federal government. A Great Rarity you will find it valued by Norm Flayderman at $12,500.00.
