Very pleasing appearance of cast metal with silver and gold colored accents. Crusoe is sitting on a grouping of rocks while cocking his flintlock rifle. The wooden base of walnut is 14 5/8" by 7" by 1 3/4"; its black specked marble base is 12 5/8" by 5 1/8" by 3/4". Overall height including the bases is 14". Casting footprint is 3 5/8" by 10 3/4". Total weight with all bases is 26 pounds. The decorative vine by Crusoe's left toe is the winding key for the clock. It keeps time and chimes for the half hour plus it counts the hours. The dual tone chime is soft as the bell is small and the heavy casting works to subdue the sound. The Roman numberal face is open without glass protection (no provision for glass). There are some very faint marks on the walnut base and some aspects of the casting might need a bit of cleaning; overall it is near excellent and ready to enjoy on your mantle. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24814/NW). NON-GUN. $500-700.
