1. EDWARD MORTIMER CHAPMAN (1862-1952). Single-sheet draft/copy TLS to Connecticut College President, Benjamin T. Marshall, personal New London letterhead, April 25, 1927. Chapman broaches his retirement/resignation, and writes, "Believe too that I count the experience of the College with its Faculty and Students one of the most rewarding chapters of my life." 11in. x 8 1/2in. Condition: Two horizontal folds, hole punches, toning/light spotting. 2. MARSHALL, BENJAMIN T. (1917-1928). Single-sheet TLS on Connecticut College, New London, Office of the President letterhead, May 2, 1927. Marshall is responding to Chapman's resignation letter, asks that he continue to the first semester the next year, and compliments "the sympathy and the understanding you have shown toward young people..." 11in. x 8 1/2in. EDWARD MORTIMER CHAPMAN (1862-1952) was a Connecticut pastor, academic, and author. He graduated from Yale Divinity School in 1890. Chapman was a descendant of Robert Chapman, one of the first settlers of Saybrook, Connecticut (c. 1635). He served as pastor of Old Lyme Church from 1906 to 1915. Chapman€™s works integrated his wide-ranging theological, literary, and historical interests. This lot and the other Chapman-related documents offered in this sale were part of a collection of his family papers.
