(CONFEDERATE GENERALS): Fine grouping of two signed endorsements of Confederate generals penned on a document wrapper, February, 1865, pertaining to a certificate of disability issued to Pvt. W. W. Chavers. Among those signing is JOHN B. GORDON (1832 - 1904), Confederate major general who led a brigade at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, and crushed Grant's line at the Wilderness, who forwards the document; and JOSIAH GORGAS (1818 - 1883), Confederate brigadier general and Chief of Ordnance who, against tremendous odds, managed to develop the South's military manufacturing capability, who forwards the request to Robert E. Lee asking that the man be ordered to report to an arsenal, with a third endorsement by WALTER H. TAYLOR (b. 1838), Confederate lieutenant colonel and Lee's closest staff officer, who pens an A.E.S. to Gorgas explaining that Chavers had experience making fuses at the Selma Arsenal. Sold with a related document sent to the Danville Arsenal, Mar. 1, 1865 seeking that Chavers be appointed to that arsenal and signed by Col. R. E. WITHERS and Major E. S. HUTTER. Two pieces, very good. $700-900
