CONFEDERATE EXEMPTION FOR MEXICAN WAR SERVICE

Currency:USD Category:Collectibles / Militaria Start Price:75.00 USD Estimated At:150.00 - 200.00 USD
CONFEDERATE EXEMPTION FOR MEXICAN WAR SERVICE
A most unusual Confederate document denying the requested exemption from Mexican War service requested by David Green of Richmond County, NC. The document, 1p. oblong 4to., "Executive Department, North Carolina, Adjutant General's Office", Raleigh, Mar. 2, 1863, is written to Lt. Sanders M. Ingram [38th NC]. In full: "Service rendered in the Mexican War does not exempt David A. Green from service in this war. The muster rolls of Col. Paine's [Mexican War] Regt. are not in this office, else I would send you the certificate with pleasure". Perhaps Green received a slight reprieve for his service, since he did not serve until 1864 when he was mustered into the 33rd North Carolina. Insect nibble along 1 1/2" of a blank fold, else very good.

Estimate: $150 - 200.
