CONFEDERATE CIVIL WAR SPEECHES
Three printed Civil War era speeches given at the House of Representatives: the first, "Message of the President", Tallahassee, Dec. 9, 1864, with a "Joint Resolution of Confidence in and thanks to President Jefferson Davis" supplied by John Milton, Gov. of Florida, 1p. (only) 8vo., given in the House, Jan. 10, 1985; the second a speech by Daniel De Jarnette of Virginia entitled "The Monroe Doctrine", given Jan. 30, 1865, calling for an end to the bloodshed, 20pp. 8vo. complete; and a third "Message of the President" submitted by Jeff Davis in Richmond, May 30, 1864 regarding the obtaining of compensation for "...certain officers and employees in the civil and legislative departments of the Government", 5pp. 8vo. complete. Along with a possible Secession card showing a Confederate camp with flag raised high and the legend "Death Before Dishonor" beneath a soldier standing at attention. Finally, the lot includes a printed New Year's Greeting circular given from the carriers of the newspaper Missouri Democrat to their subscribers. Five items.
